My name is Greg Pool, and I've written a song about golf, sea otters and the South.
And now I've gathered a bunch of CSUMB staff in working bands to record it and create a commemorative, benefit CD that will include lots of goodies about our national champion men's golf team!
Back in May 2011, the Cal State Monterey Bay men's golf team went to Alabama and advanced to the final round of the NCAA Division II national championship tournament against a very talented Lynn University squad.
The result? The first ever national title in any sport for Cal State Monterey Bay!
The last round was broadcast live from the 18th green and inspired me to chronicle the accomplishments of five amazing student athletes in an upbeat, bluesy tune.
Watch the highlights of that day from NCAA.com, including the actual "birdie in the hole" by sophomore Dylan Jackson (here's a video transcript for non-Flash smartphones).
I have recorded the song and given the rights to the Athletics department so they can sell it as a commemorative CD package, with all proceeds going to athletic scholarships at Cal State Monterey Bay!
Get on our mailing list for more updates as the project progresses (here's a full timeline of the project).
And GO OTTERS!!!
